Our Vision

Growing together in belief, knowledge and wisdom.

John 15:5 – “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”

Our vision at the Vine Schools, is for all of our children to be inspired to grow spiritually, intellectually and personally through our nurturing school community; a network of students, teachers, parents and the wider local communities of which the schools are part.

We will foster belief:

  • In ourselves; that we can fulfil our potential
  • In each other; that every voice is important
  • In the wider world; that hope must run through everything we do

We will foster knowledge:

  • In all its fullness, valuing every facet of life
  • Through teaching the tools and behaviours needed to learn
  • By encouraging and challenging everyone to achieve

We will foster wisdom:

  • To develop personal integrity and a strong moral compass
  • Through expressing curiosity and passion about the world around us
  • By demonstrating the values needed to be a citizen of our local and global communities

We have chosen the name The Vines Schools because in chapter 15 of the Gospel of John, Jesus describes himself as the 'True Vine' and he speaks of the vine as a plant. Vines were a major crop in Biblical times and so listeners would have been familiar with vines. He also told a number of parables which refer to growing vines.

The principal message of the passage is the importance of people being fruitful in their lives.

For the children who attend Seagry, Christian Malford and Somerfords’ Walter Powell schools (The Vine Schools), growing into young people and then adults who have fruitful and successful lives, achieving the best they can is what they should be helped to do. In our schools, there will be teachers doing the same thing; helping the children grow.

Our focus on Christian Values will have a powerful effect on the quality of relationships throughout our schools and also provide a wealth of naturally occurring opportunities to explore the person and the teachings of Jesus. The connectedness between the Gospel and everyday lives of children and adults in our school communities can be transformational.

Curriculum

Religion and World Views

We use a combination of the Swindon Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education and Understanding Christianity to enable our children to engage in systematic enquiry to explore the big questions about life. We want our children to ask questions and wonder about religion as well as to explore and celebrate their own and other people’s beliefs. RE is give between 10-20% curriculum time each week.

The Church of England's Vision for Education

" A good education must promote life in all its fullness"

We seek to promote educational excellence everywhere, for everyone. In our schools, the Christian foundation can be seen explicitly in the teaching and learning of RE, the wider curriculum, in our collective worship and ethos of the schools. Our vision embraces the spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, moral and social development of children and young people.

There are four basic elements to our approach that together form the ecology of the 'fullness of life'.

They are:

  • Educating for Wisdom, Knowledge and Skills: we aim to develop the whole child, the confidence to seek truth and the skills to live a full and happy life. To nurture academic habits,  develop emotional intelligence and creativity across all subjects.
  • Educating for Hope and Aspiration: we aim to guide children in directions of Hope and Aspiration, to support them when things go wrong, to give them the resources for healing and repair. To learn to foster compassion, generosity and trust in the face of despair, hardship and mistrust. To believe in their abilities and for them to believe in their full potential.
  • Educating for Community and Living Well Together: to understand human connections, develop relationships and commitments with each other, the wider community and beyond. To actively participate in communities, to develop the qualities of character that allow children and community members to flourish together.
  • Educating for Dignity and Respect: to instil the basic principle of Respect, respect for each other and our connections to the world around us, to anchor our belief that every person has value. To find the dignity to stand strong and tall in the face of adversity, in taking a stand for your beliefs without closing your mind off to other opinions and our treatment of each other is a reflection of that dignity and respect.
